Iconic Obsessions

When will we as a society understand that famous people are just as ordinary as everyone else? Millions of people buy magazines that critique famous people, show pictures of their faults, explain why they are just like us and tell lies about their lives. Why does society obsess over the people in the public eye?
Is it because "ordinary" people want to know what is like to be in the public eye? Is it because "ordinary" people want to feel like they are friends with the "stars"? I don't know the answer. It almost makes me feel sick to my stomach.
Britney Spears is constantly ridiculed by the media. Why? If she wasn't famous, she would just be an ordinary mother that likes to party. Is she really even partying too much? How do we know? We aren't with her. We believe what the media tells us. Why do we believe anything the media tells us?
I think we need to start living our lives and worry about what we can do to better our world.
